Your Genre 2

Titles- This opening sequence for this film is very long and contains most of the roles you would expect in the film due to this. We see MGM and Orion at the start of the sequence so we know that they are the two main distributers of the film. Also in the sequence we have the title of the film which has been written in bold capital letters so that it stands out to the audinece. The colours used and font style come of as very dark and serious so we know from seeing this what we should expect the film to be about and can already seeing just the titles that the film will be quite dark and have little happy moments in it. We also have the; casters, music, costume designer, production designer, editor, executive producer, screenplay writer, producer and director shown on the screen, these roles listed are going fro the least important to the most imporant of the film and therefore when the director is shown at the end we expect him to be a big name.

Through seeing the mise en scene we learn that the setting here appears to be a police academy and therefore are aware that this film will be quite serious. The women is wearing simple training clothing and is performing at this academy which tells us because she is not wearing standard police uniform eqipment she may be a new recruit and this filmcould be based around her learning her traits. It also goes agaisnt stereo typical veiws as you expect to see males being used in films like this but they have given a female charecter the main role and also gave her a high status as she is a policeman. The lighting is low key and mist surrounds her at the start which makes her look vunerable and also the darkness suggests that this film will be quite dark a gory unlike a commedy.

The editing of this sequence is very slow paced compared to the one of 7, the most likly reason for this is so that it tried to lure th e audience into a false state because at this point nothing is happening and everything seems quite calm and relaxed yet from seeing the titles we expect to see it being a lot darker but due to the slow pace of the cuts the audience feels more calm at the point.

The music in this opening sequence is very slow paced and we even hear the diegetic sound of bird song in the background, because the non-diegetic and diegetic sound seems so peacful the audience are yet again lead into a false sense of state because from just hearing the music we would expect it to be quite peacful, even when the pace increase it still doesn't sound like somthing from a thriller and instead somthing a lot more calmer.

Long shots and establishing shots are used mainly to let the audience know where abouts the setting is so that they become aware of the surroundings and can try and work out what type of film this is through seeing the area and close ups are also commonly used show the audience who the main charecter is so that they can recognise who it is and see if they have any distinguishing features.
